Moving Towards Entrepreneurship
Jade Gasper, Owner & Creative Consultant, Mark It Alternatives
Jade Gasper was born with the soul of an entrepreneur. She grew up in a small town in the Pocono Mountains of Northeastern Pennsylvania, where resources, products, and services weren’t always abundant. If what you needed didn’t exist, you created it. Problem-solving, creativity, and innovation were just typical survival skills for this every-day Mountain girl.
After college, Jade worked for a few different companies but was always busy creating new services, product ideas, solutions and business ideas outside of her day job. She didn’t feel she was utilizing her full potential working for someone else, nor was she feeling fulfilled. It was then that she decided to start her first entrepreneurial adventure in 2008 as the Founder and Chief Creative Consultant at Mark It Alternatives, a custom printed promotional product and apparel company.
After a few years, Jade realized that there was something she could do to expand her current product offering at Mark It Alternatives that would fit seamlessly into the mix and launched an e-commerce business in 2012 called GetSoxy.com, selling fun and inspirational socks.
Jade is passionate about mentoring others and creating innovative solutions to everyday problems. She thrives on anything that challenges the norm and is constantly trying to defy her comfort zone. Jade recently earned her iMBA (Innovation MBA) from Philadelphia University and utilized her program to continue to develop her entrepreneurial skill set. She also completed the Entrepreneur Business Planning Certificate program through the Professional Women’s Business Development Center in 2016. Both programs helped her to further her serial entrepreneurial efforts and Jade is currently in the process of launching a new business called Kindity, providing Diversity, Inclusion, and Innovation consulting services to businesses. She was also recently honored by the Philadelphia Business Journal with the 2016 LGBT Business Leader Award and Mark It Alternatives has ranked by PBJ as Top 25 LGBT Owned Businesses in the Greater Philadelphia Area.
From 2013-2015 Jade served as Vice President on the Board of Directors for the Independence Business Alliance (IBA), Greater Philadelphia’s LGBT Chamber of Commerce. As part of the IBA, she’s taken an active role in promoting economic development, growth, diversity, advocacy and leadership among LGBT and Allied businesses, entrepreneurs, leaders, and professionals in the region. In 2012, Jade launched the Women in Business (WiB) program of the IBA, when she identified an inclusivity need for the organization.
Aside from being a serial entrepreneur, Jade is a gardener extraordinaire, foodie, marketing geek, social media maven, outdoor enthusiast, amateur photographer, softball coach and indie music junkie.
