BUSINESS IS BLOOMING FOR LONG-TIME CHAMBER MEMBER SALLY DANCIU OF SALLY’S FLOWERS

Tue., March 20, 2018 Member Spotlight

What did you do before you started your business?

I grew up in the restaurant business and wanted to own a diner. I envisioned Sally’s Diner.  I helped out at a busy flower shop one weekend & fell in love with the industry. I opened Sally’s Flowers in 1977 after working for another florist for 2-1/2 years.

Where did you grow up and where did you go to school?

I grew up in Logan, spent my summers playing in Hunting Park, and one week every summer in Wildwood, New Jersey.

I went to Temple after graduating from Olney High School.  My most memorable time was attending a 3-week workshop in Holland with one of the best Dutch designers at the time.  I still remember what I learned and use it daily in my business.

Why did you decide to join/be associated with GNPCC and what excites you about being a member?

I reluctantly joined the Chamber in 1994 after Al Taubenberger became the President and invited me to become a member.  He was a good customer and I couldn’t say no.

After I attended some of the Chamber events and met the most wonderful and inspiring people in Northeast Philly, I was hooked. I started serving on various committees and was asked to join the board. I blinked twice and it’s 2018.

I am very happy to see how our Chamber has evolved these last three years under the direction of Pam Henshall.  GNPCC is becoming the best organization for business networking & connection in the city.

Any other information about you or your business that you think would be relevant to other chamber members?

I love that my business is connected to the local community. This is very important to me. The Cheltenham Rockledge Rotary Club meets here second Thursday of the month for breakfast. We have hosted numerous Business Association & Chamber events here at the shop.

As a business owner, what advice would you give other professionals who are considering starting a business?

Do your market research and know who your competitors are.  Find your niche and give it your all.

What do you think is the most important key to professional success, given the current economic climate?

I’m still trying to figure this one out. I’ll let you know if I do.
